How a small foundation can build an effective digital donation journey

A digital donation starts well before payment. Trust, a clear impact story, simple technology and sound measurement must work as one connected system.

01

Make the purpose concrete

A visitor should quickly understand who benefits, what change a donation enables and why the organisation is credible.

02

Reduce friction

Landing page, amount selection, payment method, form and confirmation should feel like one journey – especially on mobile.

03

Protect consent and ownership

The organisation should own its accounts, data and donor relationship. Consent, privacy and tracking must be clear before campaigns begin.

04

Measure the complete journey

Do not stop at clicks. Track donation-page visits, started journeys, completed donations and meaningful differences between messages, audiences and languages.

05

Follow up with dignity

Confirmation and further communication should strengthen the relationship without becoming intrusive. Tone, frequency and transparency are part of the experience.

Questions for management

Check this before the next investment

  • Can a new visitor understand the purpose in seconds?
  • Does payment work just as well on mobile?
  • Does the foundation own its accounts and data?
  • Is there a baseline before campaigns begin?

Important perspective

The framework is informed by hands-on work on an ongoing Swiss fundraising pilot. No client outcomes or performance figures are attributed to the pilot before they have been measured and approved.
